Gauley season has big impact on local economy

Gauley Season is here and its having a rapid impact on both the economy and rafting lovers.

Small businesses and restaurants in our area are feeling the love this season.

Gauley season is one of the biggest tourism attractions in the state and as Sharon Cruikshank with the New River Gorge Tourism Center told us, it has a big impact across southern West Virginia.

"It's kind of like Christmas ahead of time, all of our restaurants and lodging properties really do an extra boom of business, so it's really huge for this area. And it's great when all the people come in and enjoy this fall foliage as well as the high water. It's a very exciting time," Sharon Cruikshank said.

Gauley Season continues through October 20th.
