Meeting held to discuss the future of Beckley

A community meeting was held to discuss the future of Southern West Virginia's largest city Thursday night.  The meeting was held at the University of Charleston-Beckley.

How the city's streets are laid out and traffic issues in the city were discussed.

"Maybe more community activities to have people involved with... As time progresses, I would like to see Beckley progress with the times," said Paula Mitchell, who lives in Raleigh County.

Others say more businesses would bring a much needed boost to the city.

"I think the city would benefit from a lot of different types of industries," said Albert Paine of Raleigh County.

City leaders are working with Poggemeyer Design Group.  The group has helped other areas, like Athens, Ohio and Butler, Pennsylvania with their design plans.

More community meetings are planned to discuss the future of the city.
