UPDATE: Rock climber recovers at CAMC after fall from "Star Trek" in Fayette County

Rangers with the National Park Service were called to the Endless Wall in Fayette County on Monday after a rock climber fell from the cliff face. 

The accident happened in the area known as Star Trek located near Fern Creek.  The climber, from Vienna, WV, rappelled off the end of his rope and fell about 35 feet.  He sustained lower limb and back injuries in the fall. 

NPS Rangers, Fayette County Rope Rescue, Fayetteville Fire Department, Ansted Fire Department, General Ambulance and Health Net Air Ambulance responded to assist.  They had to carry the victim out of the area on a stretcher more than 1 mile over rough terrain. 

The victim was loaded onto the helicopter and flown to Charleston Area Medical Center at 6:58 p.m.  He is expected to make a full recovery.  The incident is under investigation by the National Park Service.

 


Firefighters with the rope rescue team in Fayette County are working to rescue a rock climber on Monday afternoon.

 

Emergency officials said that a person was climbing the Endless Wall when they apparently fell.  The cliff face is in the area of Lansing Road in the Fern Creek area.  The rope rescue team was sent to the scene at around 3:30 p.m.

The rope rescue team is made up of firefighters from several departments in Fayette County.  Those include but are not limited to Fayetteville, Nutall and Anstead Fire Departments.
