Now that IGS Energy CNG Services has opened its first commercial compressed natural gas fueling station, it's looking at other markets.

IGS had the grand opening for its station in the Bridgeport area Sept. 24.

"It's been running about a week. We've sold a couple of hundred gallons over the last week or so," Scott White, president of IGS, said in an interview.

The Bridgeport station is the first of three in West Virginia along the Interstate 79 corridor and one of four between Charleston and Pittsburgh that IGS is building. A station in Charleston is scheduled to open at the end of November, and one at Jane Lew should open early next year, White said.

And there are other markets under consideration, White said.

"We are looking at Wheeling. We are looking possibly at another site on (U.S.) 50 toward Parkersburg, and we are looking at the Huntington area," he said.

IGS is based in Columbus, Ohio. The company is building a station in the Youngstown area and is looking at having a CNG corridor in Ohio similar to the one in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, White said.

The Bridgeport station is the first publicly accessible station in West Virginia in the past 20 years, White said.

"I would say it's the first in this new gas era of shale. But it's not the last," White said. "We're committed to building infrastructure in West Virginia."

Antero Resources, Chesapeake Energy, EQT Corp. and the West Virginia Division of Highways have already committed to fuel vehicles on the corridor.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin was on hand for the grand opening in Bridgeport and said, "With the opening of this station, West Virginia once again is taking a bold step and leading the way toward national energy independence. Not only are we utilizing a cleaner burning fuel, but we are putting to use one that is produced right in our own state by hard-working West Virginians."

The Bridgeport fueling station is located at the On the Run Exxon in side Charles Pointe in Bridgeport.
