The Mountain State Forest Festival will kick off in Elkins this weekend and West Virginia Living Magazine has recognized one of its featured events as the best in the state.

The magazine said the Forest Festival's grand feature parade is best parade in the state. That's based on a survey of its readers. This is the 77th year for the forest festival.

"It is one of things we do that is very large; it's very long it's about two mile ride, walk, and run. For folks who are marching it's a long way, but it's a wonderful, wonderful thing for about 75,000 people," said Cindy Nucilli, of the Mountain State Forest Festival.

The festival will open this Saturday. Ashley Houchin will be crowned Queen Silvia on the following Friday, October 4. The parade will be Saturday, October 5.
