    While many are safely celebrating Labor Day, State Troopers want to caution everyone about the dangers of drinking and driving.The West Virginia Department of Transportation says over the last 5 years in the Mountain State, almost 800 people have been killed in a drink driving crash just during Labor Day Weekend. A woman and her unborn child have died in a head-on collision.

It happened around 9 Wednesday night on Packs Branch Road in Fayette County.

26 year-old Morgan Smith of Pax and her unborn child, who she had already named Isabella, both died after Smith hit a truck head-on.

The driver of the truck, 43 year-old Curtis Stover of Pax, was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center with internal injuries.

State Police told 59News Smith was not wearing her seat belt. Troopers said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

 

 


 

 

At least one person is now confirmed dead after two cars collided head-on at the border of Fayette and Raleigh Counties Wednesday night. Fayette County 911 dispatchers confirmed the accident just before 9 p.m. on Paint Creek Road.

Another person was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center, though the total number of people involved in the accident is still unclear.

Pax fire department, Jan Care and general ambulances responded to the scene.  State Police detachment in Oak Hill are handling investigation.  No names have been released at this time.
