MOUNDSVILLE -

The man who was killed in an accident at a CONSOL Energy mine on Friday has been identified. The West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training has confirmed that Roger R. King, 62, of Moundsville was killed in an accident on Friday.

The accident took place at CONSOL Energy's McElroy Mine in Moundsville, which is in Marshall County.  The preliminary investigation shows that King suffered a head injury at around 12:49 p.m.  He was underground at the time.  Officials said that King died while he was headed to the hospital.

"It is a terrible tragedy when the dangers that can accompany mining result in the loss of life," Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D-WV) said. "This miner and his family remain in the prayers and thoughts of Joanne and I, just as they surely do with all West Virginians."

King was a Long Wall Maintenance Coordinator who had worked at the McElroy mine for 17 years.  King had 42 years of mining experience.
