White Sulphur Springs police officers suspended

Posted: Updated:

59 News has learned two police officers with the White Sulphur Springs police department were suspended for three days each.

This happened six to eight weeks ago back in August according to White Sulphur Springs City Attorney Steve Hunter. Greenbrier County prosecutor Pat Via confirmed that an investigation did take place regarding some missing evidence.

We asked hunter for the details who said there was a small amount of cash missing from their evidence collection. He said this was not a criminal act, but more a mistake. He said the suspension took place for administrative purposes and did not name the officers involved.

One reason for the evidence mishap he said is too many people at the department had access to evidence room keys.

We spoke to the police department's chief who was not able to comment because it is a personnel issue. The White Sulphur Springs Mayor was out of town and not available for comment.
