FAYETTE COUNTY -

What is the fate is bridge day since the government has shut down? Viewers are asking this question and 59News is working for you to get some answers. 59News Reporter Lauren Hensley attended a Bridge Day planning meeting and security was the focus.  This is what she found out.

It's the largest single day festival held in the mountain state. For organizers like Jason Bell even though the government has shut down, they cannot shut down the party on the New River Gorge Bridge on October 19, 2013.

"Not even the government shut down will shut us down. There are a lot of jumpers that would be pretty upset if something did happen. So to squash there rumor it's still on! The World Series is on, the Super Bowl isn't canceled and either is Bridge Day," Jason Bell, Bridge Day Base Jump Coordinator said.

In a room full of organizers, National Guards, State Police and county officials, the Bridge Day Committed held a meeting to discuss what is happening with Bridge Day since the federal government has shut down.

Rumors have been circulating that due to the government furlough, the National Guard and National Park Service would not be able to provide security. 59News has found out this is not the case.  Both of the federal agencies will be able to provide security detail for Bridge Day 2013.  Community leaders tell 59News there is always a backup plan in case of emergencies like this one to make sure Bridge Day can be celebrated without a hitch.

"I think that this has always been a contingency plan for anything that is as large as this event is in our state that they would be there for us. They were at our meeting today and they plan on being here," Denise Eskew-Scalph, Fayette County Commission said.

Not only are Bridge Day plans in full swing, but organizers tell 59News this years event is going to be even bigger and better.

"The catapult is back with a vengeance and we've made some upgrades to the seat, some new components to it, so we are expecting father launches this year," Jason Bell said.

Four-hundred plus base jumpers from 10 countries are expected to attend. Organizers said they will not be disappointed, as Bridge Day 2013 will NOT be shut down.
