West Liberty University celebrates Homecoming Week from Oct. 14-19, with a variety of student, alumni and community events.

Homecoming activities begin with the traditional serenade competition that begins at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in College Hall. Each homecoming candidate pair is given a theme to develop entertainment for the performance of skits and dances in this competition. King and queen candidates include:

Jessie Boardman and Myron Jellison
Katelyn Comer and Cody Schwertfeger
Felicia McCullough and Allen Yoho
Allison Durkin and Paul Henry
Camielle Bernabei and Griffin Yocum
Kelly Haines and Dylan Potts
Julianne Wanda and Scott Kaiser
Christopher Williams and Olivia Tarr

Throughout the day of Oct. 16, candidates will be campaigning on the quad, offering free goodies, including gifts and food. From 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., students vote for their choice of king and queen.

On Oct. 17, all candidates are invited to attend a dinner hosted by the WLU Alumni Association, held at the Aquinas Center.

At 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18, WLU will host a pep rally on Hoge Quadrangle. Students can also attend various festivities on the quad throughout the day, as well as a homecoming theme dinner from 5 - 7 p.m. in the Marketplace cafeteria. That evening, donors will be honored at an invitation only benefactor's gala at Stratford Springs Restaurant in Wheeling.

Saturday's alumni events begin with the Alumni Wall of Honor Breakfast and induction ceremony that honors three alumni, Charlie Annett, Weston, Fla., Donald Bruno, University Park, Fla. and JoAnne Dunn, Patterson, N.Y., for their professional success, leadership and achievements.

At 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, the Hilltopper homecoming parade will start the festivities of homecoming day. Students and alumni are invited to tailgate before and during the homecoming game when the Hilltoppers take on Urbana University, with kick-off at 1 p.m.

The 2014 West Liberty University homecoming king and queen will be announced during the halftime show.

Dental hygiene alumni also will gather on both Friday and Saturday for continuing education classes and to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Dental Hygiene Program at Wheeling Park's White Palace.

Students end their homecoming festivities with a 10 p.m. - 2 a.m. dance at the Wheeling Wesbanco Arena.

Alumni end the weekend with a choice of two events, the Silver Bears Reception & Reunion (age 55 and older), immediately following the football game at the Gary E. West Events Center, or the new All School Reunion, 8 p.m. –  midnight, at River City Restaurant, Wheeling.
