Rusty Kruzelock will begin as the West Virginia Regional Technology Park Corporation executive director and chief executive officer on November 1, 2013.

Kruzelock, who comes to West Virginia from Kyle, Texas, was approved earlier this month by the Commission following endorsement by the park's board of directors. He will oversee all operations of the multi-tenant research, development and commercialization park located in South Charleston.

Kruzelock has extensive experience in research and development, most recently as president of Cenovance, LLC, a biotechnology company he co-founded. He has raised more than $100 million in research and development funding and built successful business programs in agriculture, science and medicine for academia, government entities, non-profit companies and start-up businesses.

Paul Hill, the Commission's Chancellor, said Kruzelock's appointment marks an important milestone for the park.

"We're pleased to welcome Dr. Kruzelock at a time of exciting progress and promise," Hill said. "In recent years, we have seen the park begin to transform from a physical standpoint, with buildings under renovation and new construction taking place. As that critical work continues, the Commission looks forward to the kind of intuitive leadership that can fill out the park's capacity with new businesses and investments. Dr. Kruzelock brings the right blend of scientific and business experience to bring our vision for the park -- as a hub of education, research and development and an economic driver for the region and state -- a reality."

Prior to his tenure at Cenovance, Kruzelock held numerous research and development posts, including chief scientific officer at Bium, Inc., head of the Department of Pharmacogenomics at the Cancer Therapy & Research Center - Institute for Drug Development at the Texas Research Park, scientific advisor for the United States Air Force Office of the Surgeon General and research assistant professor at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute.
