Full emergency staff on hand for Bridge Day

Posted: Updated:

As with an extreme sport, safety is always a main concern.

Many emergency medical personnel were on staff all day Saturday, in case a situation on the bridge took a turn for the worse.

52 emergency staff members were on hand with 18 ambulances on the New River Gorge Bridge grounds. A hospital tent was set up on the bottom of the bridge with two physicians and a full nursing staff.

"We've had a couple of tree situations with rescues, they were pre roped so that was easy. Across the river a little more significant tree rescue, Fayette County rescue team was able to help the gentlemen down. No significant injuries on either of those rescues," Director of Operations for Jancare Ambulances, Paul Seamann, told 59News.

Seamann also told us on Bridge Day, the surrounding areas of the New River Gorge Bridge become West Virginia's most populated city.
