The most popular festival in Summers County took place Saturday and Sunday.

59News reporter Jessie Gavin took us to the 47th annual Rail road Days in Hinton.

"Our culture and our history is a rail road. That's something we can honor each year," said Hinton Mayor Joe Blankenship.

Rail Road Days began in 1966 and every year has brought live music, home-made food and local arts and crafts to Summers County. A life-long native of Hinton told 59News Rail Road Days is all about pride for your hometown and it's history.

"I am proud of my town, Hinton, West Virginia. My family was raised in Summers County. and I have been here for 60 years living in Summers County. I am proud of my county and of my city," Faye Miller said.

Vendors were able to use the annual festival to meet new clients and display what they're happy to show off.

"I meet a lot of clients and people from out of town, I show things that they say they've never seen, such as the pie candles and it's fun just to talk to people that I went to school with and people from other towns so it's a great venue," The Candle Shop's owner, Melissa Whittaker said.

"It's our biggest fundraiser, we sell all kinds of magnets and t-shirts. Plus we can give out information on spaying and neutering and rescuing to a lot of people because we get a lot of traffic through here," said Terry McMahon of the Summers County Humane Society.

Not only is Rail Road Days a fun event for the entire family, it's also rich of culture and history.

"It's just our way of saying thanks to the rail roaders and to their history," Blankenship said.

"When the rail roads came in, it was a booming town. Now it has kind of fallen out but I am still proud of all the rail road workers. I have relatives that work in the rail roads," said Miller.

"We still have several rail roaders who work out of here as brake men and conductors and it's still vital and important to us. We will always be a rail road town," the mayor added.

Rail Road Days continues next Saturday and Sunday.
