The Marcellus Shale Coalition announced Oct. 22 that David Spigelmyer will assume the position of president, effective Oct. 28.

Spigelmyer has 30 years of experience in the energy industry, most recently serving as vice president of Chesapeake Energy Corporation's Appalachian division. In that position, he was responsible for government relations, regulatory policy and communications.

He served in similar roles at EQT Corporation and Dominion Resources prior to his time at Chesapeake and also worked in the energy industry in New York and Washington, D.C.

Spigelmyer is a Clearfield County, Pa. native, a Penn State University graduate and an active outdoorsman, according to information from the coalition.

"While our industry has accomplished a great deal for the entire Commonwealth and for our nation over the past several years, big challenges remain on the horizon," said coalition chairman and CONSOL Energy COO of Gas Operations Randy Albert. "And after undertaking an exhaustive executive search process, which included many highly-qualified candidates, it was clear to our board that Dave is the right individual at the right time to lead our organization.

"Dave is a proven leader with unquestionable character, passion and experience; we're thrilled to have him in this role."

The Marcellus Shale Coalition, headquartered in Pittsburgh, was founded in 2008. Its goal is to work with exploration and production, midstream and supply chain partners in the Appalachian Basin and across the country to address issues regarding the production of natural gas from both the Marcellus Shale and Utica Shale.

"Safe shale development has been one of the most transformative turning points in our Commonwealth's history," Spigelmyer said. "Led by Pennsylvania's natural gas industry and a robust and diverse membership of the MSC, we can and will have energy security, job growth and environmental protection – without a false choice among the three."
