The seventh National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day event takes place this weekend.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. at more than 130 locations in West Virginia.

Members of local law enforcement say it is important that people get rid of their drugs.  They believe one of the primary reasons people break into area homes, is to find prescription pills.

In January, deputies in Fayette County say two people were arrested after beating a man with a metal heater inside a home, in the Prudence Road area, all for prescription drugs.

"It's a scary thought.  Anybody can do it to anybody," said Barbara Skaggs of Fayette County.

Deputies say people are being targeted in new ways.

"They know a lot of veterans, elder people, and people diagnosed with some kind of disease that has high potent drugs - that they have in their house," said Chief Deputy Mike Fridley with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

People in the county are glad the event is coming.  The event takes place all across the nation.

"...An extremely good idea. I think anytime you can get that stuff off the streets, it's a good idea," said Dave Holmes of Fayette County.

Deputies say people should lock up their drugs.  They also say if your home is targeted, you should give the drugs to the intruder, so they don't cause harm to anyone in your home.
