A man is in jail after being arrested for child abuse in Cabell County, WV.
According to a criminal complaint, William Allen Andrews, 35, was arrested and charged with child abuse by parent, guardian, or custodian leading to serious bodily injury.
The criminal complaint says that police were called to Cabell Huntington Hospital in reference to a child abuse complaint.
When police arrived, they found that a three-month-old girl had sustained severe trauma to the head and eyes, which is associated with what is called Shaken and Slam.
Police interviewed both parents of the child, William Allen Andrews and Pollyana Andrews, in which Mrs. Andrews said she left their house at 7 a.m. Wednesday to take their three-year-old child to preschool while Mr. Andrews watched over their three-month-old.
According to the criminal complaint, when Mrs. Andrews returned home, she said she found their child to be limp, eyes rolling in the back of her head, and her tongue going down her throat.
The child was immediately transported to the hospital.
Both parents said that their child was "a normal, happy baby" prior to Mrs. Andrews leaving their house Wednesday morning.
The criminal complaint says that when police asked Mr. Andrews what happened, he said he could not explain it, and due to the facts obtained from both the hospital and parents' statements, Andrews was then arrested.
After police took Andrews to the barracks for processing, police asked him if he had anything else to say before the arrest process began, and this is when Andrews confessed to shaking his child harder than he should have due to the child not having stopped crying.
The criminal complaint says that after shaking the child, Andrews slammed her back into her car seat, where she was sleeping, which resulted in a bruise to the face.
Andrews was taken to the Cabell County Courthouse to be arraigned.
He is being held in the Western Regional Jail on a $200,000 bond.
His court date is set for November 4, 2013 at 10:30 p.m.
