WVU Tech boasts enrollment increase during university address

West Virginia University Institute of Technology CEO Carolyn Long presented the annual State of Tech Address Oct. 25, and announced an enrollment increase of more than 10 percent.

Long said the Montgomery campus is experiencing "wonderful growing pains," and said enrollment is at 1,222 students, with students from 28 states and 23 nations. Campus residence halls are at 92 percent capacity, and new dining options will be presented soon in response to the growth.

An additional grab-and-go eatery in the Engineering Building and new options in the Student Success Center are among the new options.

"We are one of the few public institutions in West Virginia to see an enrollment increase this past year," Long said. "I am confident that with hard work and dedication we will continue to grow our enrollment."

Long emphasized the university's focus on retention as well as the high number of students using the new Student Success Center, to the tune of 2,300 students visiting and more than 1,000 tutoring hours.

"Our vision of a student-centered university can only be accomplished with each of us partnering together," she said.

Long said even more new projects are on the way, including an outdoor basketball court, a new fire alarm system in the Baisi Athletic Center and the new Welcome Wall project funded by the Tech Golden Bear Alumni Association.
