PRINCE -

The National Park Service is considering charging a fee to stay at several campgrounds that are free right now.  The $5 fee would be implemented at three campgrounds in the Prince area around Glade Creek.

The fee would apply to the Army Camp Campground, Glade Creek Campground and Grandview Sandbar Campground.

Robin Snyder with the National Park Service said the money generated would help with upkeep to the campgrounds and it would also deter crime that is often seen around free camping areas.

Snyder said their decision on whether the fee will be implemented is going to be based on what people in the community have to say about it.

"Basically we will take the silence as people saying they are okay with it," said Snyder.

To submit your opinion on this just visit their web site www.nps.gov/neri from the links on the left side of the page, select "Management," then "Park Planning," then "Civic Engagement for Proposed New Fees at Army Camp, Glade Creek and Grandview Sandbar Campgrounds," then "Document List."
