The foundation, the nation's leading research institute for the empirical study of law, is an honorary organization of lawyers, judges, law faculty and legal scholars. Fellows are selected by their peers, and membership is limited to less than 1 percent of lawyers admitted to practice in each jurisdiction of the United States.

Hurney handles the litigation and trial of cases involving serious personal injury and wrongful death. His practice includes industrial-related injuries and exposures, medical professional liability, products liability and pharmaceuticals, including class and mass tort actions.

He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and part of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has practiced with Jackson Kelly for 30 years and now manages the firm's health care and finance group.

He is a graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law.

Powell focuses his practice on the defense of civil litigation and white collar criminal matters. He manages the firm's office in Martinsburg, where he practices in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group, the Government Contracts and Investigations Practice Group.

Powell is a member of the American Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, Association of Defense Trial Attorneys and the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia. He earned his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law, where he served on the editorial board of the West Virginia Law Review.
