Friday night football playoff preview

Posted: Updated:

Friday night four local teams will hit the gridiron in the first round of the playoffs.

Meadow Bridge, Wyoming East, Greenbrier West and Oak Hill are all in contention for the state title in their respective classes. T

Meadow Bridge is the lone single-A team on this list had an 8-2 season with their only losses being to two other playoff bound teams. Head coach Larry McClintic is no stranger to the postseason stage, having brought his team there for the past three years. Last year they fell in the first round but with the yards that Jake 'The Snake' Parker is putting up, the Wildcats have a chance to go farther this year.

Wyoming East is 9-1 in the regular season and the Warriors have come out to play each week and have proven they are ready for postseason battles. Unfortunately for Nicholas County, running back Jacob Summe is not only back, but he's getting hotter and hotter. There's only one trip he plans to take, and that one is to the end zone.

Greenbrier West is another 9-1 team hosting a first round game. A lot of credit can be given to their lights-out defense. The Cavaliers protect their end zone only allowing an average of 10 points per game. They sport many weapons but one to look out for is Corey Cox who has proven he can play on both sides of the ball.

Oak Hill had an 8-2 record and Red Devils didn't have an easy schedule but luckily for them Eddie Souk runs a tight ship. They managed to sail through the seas of contenders and land on that playoff shore. The captain of the Mighty Oak ship is Jalen Jones, who navigates his way down the field week in and week out. George Washington's best chance to win this game is to keep Jalen Jones and K. K. Goodman away from the red zone.
