    HINTON -- The Hinton Hope Foundation, along with the John Henry Historical Society, are hosting a fundraiser gala on Saturday, May 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The proceeds of the event will go towards the renovation of the new John Henry Museum and Gift Shop in Talcott.     An enormous effort is underway in Fayette County to stop the spread of a massive brush fire that continues to consume more land in the New River Gorge.

The fire in downtown Marlinton has provoked an enormous outpouring of help from communities across southern West Virginia.

A release from the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office said that donations of clothing and other needed items has been overwhelming.  The citizens of Marlinton are now asking for material donations to stop until further notice.  This is so that the families can get organized in their new dwellings.

The families are requesting that people who want to donate money think about the local fire departments.  Some of those departments had equipment damaged while they were fighting the fire.
