WV Emergency Medical Works Rally Against Proposal

Posted: Updated:

Emergency medical workers across the state are fighting a proposal by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin to contract out non-emergency medical transports in the state.

EMS Squads throughout the state said they depend on those jobs to help subsidize the emergency calls they receive throughout the year.

Lewis County EMS Coordinator Christopher McCall said without those funds, they may not be able to get to emergencies as quickly.

"It makes an impact where we have to worry about even getting our emergency calls out and staffing emergencies. This helps offset our emergency calls, and to be able to help the local citizens of the county," McCall said.

Squads from across the state also gathered in Charleston earlier Monday afternoon to protest that proposal.
