Greenbrier West prepares for round 2 of the playoffs

Posted: Updated:

Winning, it's the goal for every football team, and Greenbrier West has racked up many wins under head coach Lewis McClung.

"Well, I'm really proud of them. This group of seniors has won 41 football games in the past 4 years and I think that's a good testament to them," said McClung.

The Cavalier football team is no stranger to the post season. Senior Corey Cox realized he was expected to help his team get there again.

"We've had 4 seasons in the playoffs and its been great to be with these guys and we've always had a good program," Cox said.

Coach McClung has been head coach for 12 years, but has been with the Cavalier program for over 20.

Cox added, "he's been out here, he's done it a lot. Starting a good program, going to the playoffs every year, he's a good coach."

Coach McClung has watched his seniors improve each year and hopes their experience in previous playoffs will be beneficial this year.

"Last year we made it to the quarterfinals and so you know our kids have played a lot of football in the playoffs and I think that does help," he said.

This group is used to winning. But, this year is different. For the seniors, it's their last chance to win a state championship.

They will fight to keep title hopes alive on Saturday on the road against undefeated St. Mary's at 1:30.
