2nd round playoff preview- Bluefield, Richlands, Greenbrier West

Posted: Updated:

Teams in the postseason have whittled down and the second round of playoffs is upon us.

Here's the breakdown of we should expect from some teams on the gridiron this weekend:

Bluefield- The Beavers get to host another battle at Michell Stadium as they face Nicholas County at 7:30 on Friday. They held off Ravenswood in the first round winning 31-14. This high octane offense jumped all over the Red Devils early putting up 3 touchdowns in the first quarter of last weeks game before taking their foot off the gas pedal. D. J. Stewart and D. J. Edwards totaled over 300 combined yards of offense in that so Nicholas County's defense needs to be on their toes.

Richlands- They've already made it farther than they did last season but the Blue Tornado won't be satisfied until they've blown away all teams in their path to the championship. They swept away Graham 31-21 last week and move on to face Virginia High at home. The Bearcats will have to hold their bearings as the Blue Tornado's special teams blocked a punt and field goal a week ago and seem to have been firing on all cylinders.

Greenbrier West- One local team that won't be playing under the Friday night lights but instead will play on Saturday. The Cavaliers have gained a reputation this year for two things, running the ball and having a lights-out defense. Their first round victory over Notre Dame proved both. They rushed for 454 yards and only allowed 7 points on defense. This weekend they will need be successful at both to top the undefeated Blue Devils.

FRIDAY'S GAMES:

Virginia High @ Richlands 7:30

Nicholas County @ Bluefield 7:30

SATURDAY'S GAME:

Greenbrier West @ St. Mary's 1:30
