West Virginia lawmakers reflected on the assassination of John F. Kennedy on the 50th anniversary of his death Friday.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin issued a proclamation Nov. 22 ordering all U.S. and state flags be displayed at half-staff the entire day, in remembrance of the life and service of President John. F. Kennedy. A presidential proclamation has also been issued.

"Today we honor the life and service of President John F. Kennedy," Tomblin said. "It is my hope that through President Kennedy's actions and words, future generations of young people will reflect on the heritage they share, be reminded to have the courage to make the right decisions, and answer the call to service."

Yesterday at the West Virginia State Capitol, Tomblin and First Lady Joanne Jaeger Tomblin re-dedicated the plaque which commemorates a day which forever tied JFK to the hearts and minds of West Virginians during his visits to the Mountain State.

Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., said Friday the Kennedy legacy lives on in the Mountain State.

"It lives not only in his hallmark programs that have so well-served our state's families, but in his energy and enthusiasm and his hope for the future that inspired a generation to public service," Rahall said. "The torch continues to be passed to those still eager for a better, more peaceful world."
