A special session of the October 2013 Preston County grand jury has indicted a Bruceton Mills man on 13 sex crime charges.
The grand jury indicted Stephen Dwight Herto, 47, on two charges of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or a person in a position of trust, ten counts of soliciting a minor via a computer, and one count of use of obscene matter with the intent to seduce a minor, according to Preston County Prosecuting Attorney Mel Snyder.
Herto, formerly a licensed chiropractor, is accused of sending multiple emails to a 16-year-old patient, soliciting her to engage in sexual intercourse and to provide him with naked pictures of her, according to an indictment. Herto is also accused of inappropriately grabbing the girl during an office visit and asking her, "when are we going to hook up?", said the indictment. The emails are alleged to have been sent between October 2010 and February 2011.
If convicted on each charge, Herto could face up to 145 years in prison.
