Concord Downs Davis & Elkins, 82-70
Led by five players in double figures, the Concord University women's basketball team defeated Davis & Elkins 82-70 at the McConnell Center Thursday night.
The Mountain Lions were in control for the majority of the game, only trailing in the opening three minutes of the contest. CU led by 10 points at halftime and by as many as 14 in the second half before winning by 12.
Junior forward Andrea Bertrand
earned her first double-double of the season by scoring 23 points and pulling down a season-high 11 rebounds. In scoring a season-high 23, Bertrand was very efficient from the field shooting 10-of-14 from the field and 3-of-4 from the foul line.
Junior forward Jacqueline Kestner
scored a career-high 17 points while collecting eight rebounds. She bested her previous career-high by two points. She also contributed on the offensive end by dishing out a season-high five assists.
Fellow junior guards Sissy Wagner
and Rachel Artrip
were also outstanding on the offensive end for the Mountain Lions with Wagner scoring 16 points and dishing out eight assists. Wagner continued her stellar stroke from the foul line, shooting 3-of-4.
Meanwhile, Artrip scored in double figures for the second consecutive game with 10 points in addition to a defensive effort that included a career-high six steals.
Rounding out the quintet of double figure scorers was senior center Sammi Webster
, who went 6-of-7 from the field for 12 points while totaling six rebounds on the glass.
For the game, the Mountain Lions shot 45.2 percent from the field while holding Davis & Elkins to just 34.6 percent. Concord also outrebounded the Senators (51-48) and had more steals (10-6).
CU improves its record to 2-1 on the season while Davis & Elkins falls to 1-4.
