A shooting happened early Friday morning close to a main highway in Beckley. Police told 59News 22-year-old Christopher Henry was shot multiple times.

It happened in the Beckley Housing Authority neighborhood. 59News reporter Jessie Gavin has been following this story and brings us there.

"I was washing the dishes straightening up from Thanksgiving when I heard three gunshots. My son likes to look out the window so he said Mommy the ambulance! I thought he was talking about one of his toys but he kept saying it so I looked out the window and there were 2 ambulances right here," neighbor Porsha Thompson said.

Neighbors told 59News they are shocked to hear of a shooting in their quiet neighborhood, especially right after Thanksgiving.

"There's never been any shootings here. It doesn't make sense for anybody to shoot point blank period. But to shoot someone on a day when you're supposed to be giving thanks is ridiculous," she told us.

While enjoying the company of family and close friends is what Thanksgiving is all about, Detective Allard told us sometimes, that can be a dangerous combination.

"Anytime you have a lot of people together there's normally a lot more alcohol and drugs involved. Anytime there's a holiday we do see an up tick in crime, especially violent crime. Looking in years back, unfortunately this is the norm," Allard said.

Beckley police say they have a suspect in mind but have made no arrests at this time. Now police are asking for the public's help in making our streets safer for the holiday weekend.

If you have any information on the suspect, you're urged to call Beckley Police.
