Virginia Tech is set to debut its next president.

The Associated Press is reporting the Board of Visitors will name a successor to President Charles Steger, Friday.

Steger announced his retirement in June but agreed to remain at the Blacksburg school until the University's next president was selected.

Through his 14 years as president, Steger has won much praise.

The university increased its research spending from $192 million in 2000 to more than $450 million right now.

It also increase enrollment and capital projects and raised more than $1 billion in private funding.

Steger was also president at Tech when a gunman killed 32 on campus before killing himself.

Some parents have criticized his actions on that day.
