BLUEFIELD, WV -

Crews responded to a house fire Thursday night in Bluefield, West Virginia.

Mercer County dispatchers got the call of a kitchen fire at a home on Frederick Street around 6:19PM.

The home owner said he battled the flames single handedly for 15 minutes with a garden hose before crews with the Bluefield Fire Department responded.

Everyone was able to make it out of the house safely except there was a moment of fear for the life of the family dog who was stricken with smoke inhalation.

But, a great sigh of relief followed once the dog miraculously came to life after being fed oxygen from an oxygen mask.

The fire commander said the house was saved when the water line melted thus pouring water into the house and putting out the fire.

The cause is not known at this time.
