On Monday, Dec. 9, Raleigh County School Superintendent Jim Brown announced that the West Virginia School Building Authority approved a $1 Million grant.

The Major Improvement Grant or MIP will be added to $4.7 Million in district capitol improvement funds.  The money will be used for major facility upgrades at Beckley Stratton Middle School.  Those improvements will include a new roof, total HVAC replacement and redesign, electrical upgrades and window replacement.

"This grant award demonstrates the confidence Dr. Mark Manchin, Executive Director and the SBA board has in this project and the need for the work to be completed," said Superintendent Brown. "Students will return to school in the fall to a school with a much improved indoor air quality and better overall school climate."

The project is phase one of a major capitol improvement plan that the Raleigh County Board of Education initiated.  Superintendent Brown said that the work will be complete over the summer of 2014 to make sure that the interruption to the educational process is kept to a minimum.
