Giles County to play in VA state championship, WV's all-state football honors announced

Posted: Updated:

With high school football season over in the Mountain State the attention turns across the state border to Giles County who's competing for the Virginia state title on Saturday.

The Spartans have went 10-2 the past two years before falling in the playoffs. But, this time around the team has not been tainted as they had a perfect regular season and have continued to roll all the way to the state final game against Brunswick.

The players have been waiting for this opportunity for a very long time.

"I remember going to both the state games in '05 and '06 and I just looked up at my dad and told him, 'one day I'm going to be here,' and during little league we knew we had just a good a chance as anybody and we worked hard and now we are back here and going to take advantage of this opportunity," said Giles Junior Hunter Epperley.

The 14-0 Spartans play at Salem Stadium in Virginia at 4:30 on Saturday.

One high school basketball play from Roanoke, Virginia has gone viral.

In the William Byrd vs. Cave Spring game Wednesday night, Marvey'o Otey tried to keep the ball inbounds and threw it behind the back, and drilled a 3 point shot.

This remarkable play is now all over the internet being mentioned by Deadspin, CBSSports, and even SportsCenter.
