A light coating of snow is creating hazardous driving conditions in parts of West Virginia.

Meanwhile, Interstate 64 is closed near the Institute exit in Kanawha County following a fatal accident this morning.

According to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, a coal truck carrying ash merged onto the interstate when it and a tractor-trailer from Roadway Corp. collided. The driver of the tractor-trailer was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the coal truck, Michael Powell, was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

The westbound lanes of I-64 are expected to be closed until about noon.

In northern West Virginia, the Harrison County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene of a crash on Interstate 79 southbound just after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The sheriff's department said one adult and three children were transported to United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.

Kanawha County Metro 911 reports several traffic on interstate highways in the county. Cabell County 911 tweeted a message saying many roads there are icy due to melting and/refreezing snow. It urges drivers to be especially careful on bridges/overpasses.
