Neighbors react to Christmas Day kidnapping in Fayette County

Deputies are releasing new details about a case, where a woman says she was kidnapped, bound, and tossed into the cold.

Investigators say Betty Burns got into an argument with her boyfriend Larry Nelson, on Christmas Day, in the Springdale area.  Deputies say Nelson hit Burns in the head, tied her hands together, gagged her with a sock and handkerchief, and shoved her out of a vehicle at a nearby strip mine.

"I don't like it.  The crime rates are real bad in this neighborhood anyways," said Thomas Lizotte of Fayette County.

"Anymore around this country, nothing doesn't surprise me with drugs," said Harold Gill Jr. of Fayette County.

Burns managed to get her legs loose and walked through the woods for about 90 minutes, according to deputies.  Burns eventually found a home in the area, where she was able to call for help, and get medical assistance.

"You never know who you're really with really.  Sometimes it takes 10 years to find out who you're really living with," said Lizotte.

Deputies are not saying anything about Burns' medical condition as of early Thursday night. Deputies searched for Nelson Wednesday night and they also fanned out to continue the search on Thursday morning.  They hope to be able to release a picture of Nelson soon.
