Red Cross Asks People to Donate Blood as a New Year's Resolution

Posted: Updated:

January is National Blood Donor Month.  Why not start the year off by making a resolution to donate blood?

The American Red Cross said more than 41,000 blood donations are needed every day.

If you already donate once each year, make it two in 2014.  The Red Cross said just one pint of blood donated can save up to three lives.

There are few requirements to donate blood. Donors must be healthy, weigh at least 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old.

If your unable to donate blood, there are other ways to start the year with a life saving gift.

Volunteer at a community drive, refer someone to donate blood,  or host a blood drive at your school, place of business or church.
