A meter reader with Beckley Water Company was turning off the water when our 59News crews arrived to the Eccles home Saturday morning in Raleigh County, still in flames.

"We had it as an active account, a few months ago there was someone living in it, the last time I was down this way, but this house is still an active account," said meter reader Scott Mays.

When Mays arrived, a neighbor was outside watching the home burn to the ground. Mays told us what the neighbor saw when he looked out his window Saturday morning.

"He saw an explosion, the trees were on fire," said Mays.

Trap Hill Fire Department also battled a house fire in Naoma Friday night. They told 59News the house is a total loss and the family is now displaced.

Patrick Taylor with the Raleigh County Crisis Team told us they assisted the family as much as they could.

"The family in Naoma had family members in the area that took them in. The Crisis Team only made sure they were taken care of for the night so that ended our relationship with them other than we let the Red Cross know," Taylor said.

For families that have lost their home to a fire, the Crisis Team helps them with more than just a place to stay.

"The Crisis Team is able to get medicine for them and food for them and we have relationship with doctors in the area in case their medicine is burned up in the fire," Taylor told 59News.

For Mays, working on burned-down homes is unfortunately all too common.

"I wasn't expecting to see the smoke and the flames still burning, but it isn't the first time we've come out for a house fire. We get a lot of calls up here it seems like, for houses burnt, we have one right down the street and another one right down the street from that one," he said.

No one was injured in either fire.
