Did you know? FSU has many ties to the Mountain State. 2014 McDonald's All-Star nominees

Posted: Updated:

---Florida State's National Championship win over Auburn on Monday is the third title in school history.

Jimbo Fisher led the Seminoles to win this year, while the other two wins were under legendary coach Bobby Bowden.

Both coaches have ties to the Mountain State.

Fisher was born in Clarksburg and went to school there before playing football for Salem College, now Salem International University. He played quarterback under Terry Bowden, Bobby Bowden's son. When Bowden took a job at Samford University in Alabama, Fisher transferred with him. He held many coaching roles before succeeding the eldest Bowden as FSU's head coach.

Bobby Bowden's ties to West Virginia are a bit more well known. Before the hall-of-famer coached the Seminoles for 33 years and 2 national championships, he was head coach of WVU from 1970 to 1975 with a 42-26 record with the Mountaineers.

More ties between the two schools with WVU quarterback Clint Trickett who transferred from FSU in the spring. He played in Tallahassee for 3 seasons before deciding to be a Mountaineer.

His father Rick Trickett is the Seminoles' Assistant head coach...and offensive line coach.
