    HINTON -- The Hinton Hope Foundation, along with the John Henry Historical Society, are hosting a fundraiser gala on Saturday, May 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The proceeds of the event will go towards the renovation of the new John Henry Museum and Gift Shop in Talcott. The gala will be held at the 19th century building, which is the future site of the museum.     An enormous effort is underway in Fayette County to stop the spread of a massive brush fire that continues to consume more land in the New River Gorge.
    An enormous effort is underway in Fayette County to stop the spread of a massive brush fire that continues to consume more land in the New River Gorge.

Southern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia have been pounded by snow on Tuesday, Jan. 21.  Road crews struggled to stay ahead of the snow coming down, and businesses began to announce closings by 2 p.m.

Here is a list of those businesses and agencies that are closed:

Raleigh County:

Crossroads Mall closing at 5 p.m.
FMRS canceled DUI class scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Beckley location.
Leisure Lanes closed at around 3:30 p.m., no Tuesday handicap league.

Fayette County:

Fayette County Health Dept. closed at 2:30 p.m.

Monroe County:

Monroe County Courthouse closed at 2:30 p.m.

Greenbrier County:

Greenbrier County Courthouse will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22

Other:

Schwan's Home Delivery Service will be postponing services in southern West Virginia scheduled for the rest of the day on Tuesday and all day Wednesday. Please call 1-888-SCHWANS (724-9267) for additional information.
