The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra continues the Capitol Conference Center Symphonic Series at 8 p.m. on Jan. 24 and 25 in the Maier Foundation Performance Hall at the Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of West Virginia.

The performance will include Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 15 featuring guest pianist Valentina Lisitsa. The orchestra will also perform Sibelius' Symphony No. 1, Op. 39.

With over 60 million YouTube views and 120,000 subscribers, Lisitsa is one of the most-watched and followed classical musicians on the web. She is considered the first classical musician to convert her Internet success into a global concert career at some of the most famous venues in the world.

"Valentina is a virtuosa," said Grant Cooper, artistic director and conductor of the WVSO.  "She has performed several times with our WVSO, always to critical and public acclaim, and began her series of collaborations with us at a landmark concert immediately following Sept. 11, 2001 with a beautiful performance of Rachmaninov's second concerto."

Cooper said that he and Lisitsa have discussed her returning to play a Brahms cycle, with both concerti being played in the same calendar year. The performance of the first concerto this weekend is the initial installment in fulfilling their dream.

Lisitsa will return this fall to perform the second concerto of Brahms so audiences will have the opportunity to hear these two great monuments of Western music played by the same artist and in close proximity.

Prior to the performance, Cooper hosts Preludes, a conversation on the evening's music, at 7 p.m.

For this concert, patrons are invited to take part in a special buy-one-get-one-free ticket sale. The WVSO Board of Directors and staff feel it is important to give members of the greater Charleston community the opportunity to experience this concert and hear Lisitsa because of her special relationship with the WVSO. This concert comes at a time when communities are still recovering from the recent State of Emergency.

To claim the ticket offer, customers must visit the Clay Center box office or call 304-561-3570 and mention "Back to Business Charley West." Tickets start at $24 for adults and $12 for students and children. Tickets also may be ordered online at www.wvsymphony.org.
