Public Works is prepared for the worst

Posted: Updated:

With all this winter weather we've seen lately, we want to know if salt trucks are still fully stocked?

Public Works treats more than 500 streets within Beckley City limits. They told 59News in years past they've completely run out of their supply of salt, but one maintenance worker told us this season, they're fully prepared for the worst.

"A lot of people don't realize we are on their street, it takes a little time to get to them. I live outside the city and a lot of times I don't even see a salt truck so they're really lucky the people that live in the city to be able to have 24 hours of service," Howard Cox said.

Public Works employees said they've gone through 300 tons of salt in the past few weeks and they still have 500 tons reserved in their landfill.

Because Beaver Avenue and New River Drive are often the worst hit, Public Works makes sure they take extra care on those roads.
