SUNDIAL -

Workers with the West Virginia Department of Transportation are hoping to take a huge step forward in the coming week to clean up a rockslide that has left some Raleigh County communities nearly cut off.

Department of Highways Engineer Alan Reed said they still have a small amount to remove from the hillside but they primarily are working to remove the dirt and rocks from the roadway.

After the road is cleared, it will be cleaned, the guardrail fixed and then approved for driver to pass on it again.

Reed also said the cold and snow this week made it very difficult for the trucks to drive on the roads and the workers to be out in the cold as much as they had hoped.

Reed said he is trying to eventually open one lane of the road so people living in Sundial and the surrounding areas can travel on Route 3 to work.
