    Crews fought a house fire in Fayette County Saturday evening for several hours. 911 Dispatchers said the call came in of a house fire on Paint Creek Road near Pax around 6:30 p.m. Pax Fire Department and Bradley-Prosperity Fire Department responded along with several other crews. We're told no one was inside the home when the fire happened.

West Virginia School Building Authority Executive Director Mark A. Manchin has plans to fill the Harrison County School Superintendent position left vacant by Susan Collins.

Manchin said Jan. 27 the conversation about the position has only been going on for about a week. He said he learned of the opening in Harrison County and let officials know he was interested in the position. He said they drafted a contract, which he'll review and likely accept on Wednesday at a meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Harrison County Board of Education office. 

Manchin said expects to begin work in June 2014, and there is a lot of work to be done with county bonds and school construction at the SBA in the meantime.

Manchin spent five years serving as superintendent in Webster County superintendent and six years as superintendent of McDowell County schools, and has been working closely with county boards of education statewide in his current position at the SBA, which he has held since 2006.

Manchin said he's excited to come back to the Harrison County area, having grown up in nearby Marion County. He said he still has lots of friends and family in the area.
