"Mats for the Homeless Project" In Full Swing in Wheeling

A project benefiting the city of Wheeling, more specifically, the homeless, is under way.

Mats and hats, made of grocery bags knotted into a yarn-like string called "plarn" are being created, and the water-resistant mats end up serving as someone's bed. Youth Services System in Wheeling hands them out to people in need.

The statewide project began in 2010 It takes an average of 800 to 900 bags and about 50 hours to make one mat. They call it the ultimate recycling project.
