    Ohio Valley residents and businesses, along with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Western PA & West Virginia, plan to participate in a walk to help fight blood cancer.

The West Virginia Immunization Network hosted its Ninth Annual Awards Dinner to recognize individuals and organizations throughout the state who have demonstrated a commitment to improving the health of West Virginians.

The event took place from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 28 from The Great Hall in the Culture Center on the State Capitol Complex in Charleston.

Award recipients were:

 

  •  Immunization Initiative Award: Roane County Family Health Care, Spencer
  • Screen Shot Award: Cardinal Pediatrics, Morgantown
  • Immunization Policy Award: Dr. Sam Skaff, Skaff Pediatric Group, Charleston
  • Childhood Immunization Award: Keeli Morehead, Monongalia County Health Department - WIC
  • Adult Immunization Award: Betsy Elswick, WVU School of Pharmacy
  • Special Achievement Award: Kathleen Napier, Cabell-Huntington Health Department

 

Dr. Letitia Tierney, commissioner of the Bureau for Public Health and State Health Officer presented opening remarks. Evelyn Brooks, who is the mother of a girl who died of Meningococcal Disease, and also a member of MOM's on Meningitis, a program of the National Meningitis Association, delivered the keynote address.
