Good news to residents of Iaeger in McDowell County.

Progress is being made on their brand new elementary school.
Superintendent Nelson Spencer said they have received a state grant of 7 million dollars from the School Building Authority to complete the construction of the new Iaeger Elementary School.
Students and teachers at the old school were moved out late last year after the parking lot slid into a nearby river.

"We deserve this school, the children deserve this school, we are finally at the point where we have smiles on our faces and not frowns so we are happy to move forward and finish this," said Spencer.

Spencer said they've also selected which contracting company will build the school.  He said Swope construction out of Bluefield, West Virginia was the low-bidder.  Spencer said he hopes construction will begin this April.
