Four cars collide with a boulder around 9 p.m. Sunday.

WV Turnpike dispatchers say a boulder was in a dark section of highway on I-77 North near Mahan.  One vehicle that hit the boulder was a West Virginia state trooper in his cruiser on the way to work.

Officials with the West Virginia Parkways Authority were not certain how the boulder ended up in the roadway.  However, they do not believe it was as a result of a rockslide.

No one was hurt in the accidents,  The left lane was shut down for 20 minutes, according to dispatchers.  A snowplow was able to remove the boulder. The area has since re-opened.
