Concerned citizen happy to see East Beckley Post Office open

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. Postal Service reverses its decision to reduce window hours at two post offices in Beckley and Bluefield.

U.S. Representative Nick Rahall said the Postal Service reduced the window hours at the East Beckley Post Office in mid-January.

The agency also planned to reduce the window hours at the Bluefield Federal Street Post Office beginning last week. Concerned citizen Lee Leftwich told 59News why he believes the East Beckley Post Office staying open is vital.

"It is in a predominantly black and elderly community. It's very accessible by being on county route 210 and people have a tendency to stop where it's more convenient and accessible than anywhere else," Leftwich said.

The West Virginia Democrat says the Beckley post office's window hours will return to their previous schedule February 17. The Bluefield post office's window hours won't be reduced
