Soldier sentenced for child porn with help from Tazewell County

The Tazewell County Sheriff's Office was instrumental in putting a stop to the distribution of child porn by a man serving in the U.S. Army.

The investigation began after a computer that was offering to "share" child pornography was traced to Bluefield, VA.  investigators with the Internet Crimes Against Children task force in Tazewell County were able to track the IP Address back to Fort Campbell, KY.

Special Agents with the Military Police at Fort Campbell were able to get a search warrant based on the information provided by the Tazewell County Sheriff's office.  MPs seized several items used for storing computer files from Cpl. Gregory M. Willis.  According to U.S.> Army records, Cpl Willis was found to have more than 7,000 pictures and 54 videos containing child pornography.

Willis was charged under the Uniform Code of Military justice (UCMJ) Article 134.  He pleaded guilty on Dec. 5, 2013 to one count of Possession of Child Pornography in excess of 5 images and in excess of 5 videos.  Willis was sentence din January to serve two years in federal prison.  He was also reduced in rank from Corporal to Private (three pay grades), forfeited all of his pay and allowances and was discharged from the military for bad conduct.

The Internet Crimes Against Children task force has seen an increase in crimes over the past three years.  In a news release the said that there were 8 cases in 2012.  That increased to 55 cases in 2013.  So far in 2014, there have been 15 cases developed by the task force.
