Cost of winter weather could hurt local businesses

Posted: Updated:

It was business as usual in downtown lewisburg Thursday, well almost. Heavy snow made for a quite main street and was to blame for some of the local businesses being closed.

Those shops that did open only saw a few customers. Most of the business the shops receive is foot traffic, and with over a foot of snow covering the sidewalks, it was hard for anyone to get around.

Despite the weather, the Wild Bean coffee shop opened bright and early. They said on cold days, customers really appreciate that warm cup of coffee. However, the crowd was smaller than it typically is, even during their busiest morning hours.

Many of the store owners live right in town and were able to walk to work. Some shops cleared a front entrance to get more people inside. The owners said this is just one day out of the year and they expect business to return after the weather dies down.
