Derek Jeter to hang up cleats after 2014 season

Wednesday a Major League Baseball great announced he will be hanging up his cleats after the 2014 season.

After telling New York management, Yankee's shortstop Derek Jeter went to Facebook to announce that he will be retiring at the end of this season.

It was long letter that started with a 'Thank You' to his fans, and went on to say that this year will be his last.

The 39 year old captain played for 19 seasons as has 5 world series rings. He also has made 13 all-star appearances in his very decorated career.

Another big move in professional baseball, Pirates A. J. Burnett signed a one year $16 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Burnett spent the past two seasons with the Pirates and went 10-11 with the team.

This comes on the same day that Phillies left-handed pitcher Cole Hamels announced he probably won't be back in time for the start of the season due to tendonitis in his shoulder.

Burnett will join the Phillies rotation behind Cliff Lee.
